auto-workshops

Since 2016, auto-workshops gather artists and the non-initiated to experiment with practices  in performance art and group organising. The project’s title references a desire to create “ourselves”, which is rooted in knowledge-sharing and artistic self-determination.

Vacant lots are chosen as the space for performance and collective experimentation. The debris that can be found in these environments is activated via exercises in improvisation. The objects are then re-scattered so as not to leave a trace, except for in the imaginary of the participants. A platform for unique relational exchanges, auto-workshops question the social possibilities of vacant space, and the self-empowerment of holding that space collectively.
