Maria Evelia Marmolejo
Maria Evelia Marmolej started her political and feminist performance practice in the late 1970s in Cali, Colombia. In her work, the woman’s body plays a powerful role in addressing socio-political and ecological issues, pertinent to Latin America and the world at large. She acquired a Master of Art and Humanities degree from Queens College, CUNY.
Marmolejo’s art has been shown both inside and outside the art institution, often taking place in secluded locations away from the public view or in public space, with or without the consent of authorities. She has participated in various exhibitions both in her native Colombia and in other countries. She has been invited to participate in triennials and in re.act.feminism # 2 – a performing archive. She was awarded with the CIFO Grants & Commissions Program Award, 2016 and She participated in the great exhibition of The Political Body: Radical Women in Latin American Art: 1960 -1985, which was curated by Cecilia Fajardo-Hill and Andrea Giunta.
